WWF contracted Ziva to carry out a groundwater sustainability analysis of the Hwange National Park (HNP) game watering strategy. Water is pumped from boreholes in the Kalahari sand into natural pans that are the only places where surface water occurs in these areas – a critical source of water for animals in the park.
Using GIS and groundwater modeling software we developed maps and analyses to characterize the groundwater systems in the park and draw conclusions about the sustainability of the pumping regime.
